The new MacBook Pros-released, for the record, a year and a half after the 2015 models, which were in some cases changed very little from the 20 models-have been birthed into this era of frustration. Macs aren't even regularly refreshed with new processors from Intel, Nvidia, and AMD as they're released anymore we could rely on that as recently as three years ago. The iPhone gets refreshed promptly and consistently every September, while some Macs sit there for one or two or three years without even being mentioned. In the space of just a decade, they've watched their favorite platform go from being the center of the company's attention to a minor line item. We will post full-length reviews of the new MacBook Pros in due course. You can't fault longtime die-hard Mac users for being a little frustrated with Apple. That way you have a powerful machine that's not reliant on adapters, though its years-old form factor and last-gen display could make it look a little aged.įor a more in-depth look, read New Atlas' review of the MacBook Air or first impressions of the non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro. Still, for maximum forward and backward utility, it's tempting to get a custom-configured Air with a speedy processor. It has a far superior display and graphics, and for an additional $300, it's got the fancy new Touch Bar as well. On the other hand, it's always tempting to opt for the latest and greatest, which in this case would be the year-and-a-half newer MacBook Pro. Using this year's MacBook Pro, especially for professional applications, is likely to demand the use of adapters and other peripherals. The Air has a few things the MacBook Pro doesn't, namely traditional ports. That's a significant amount, so it complicates this decision. The base model Air starts out US$500 cheaper than the Pro.

So you can't compare Diptrace / EAGLE with the likes of KiCAD as they have completely different goals. I have used Diptrace and while I don't actively use it, it's a good package, the developers are quick to respond to questions. Where software like Diptrace will outperform others is in support, you can manage around "features" or chose to pay for extra features, but you can't generally manage around bugs and support, waiting a few days for a bug fix costs enough, waiting years costs a lot more than your $600 subscription! If you spend all day using Diptrace, EAGLE, or Altium, you're going to naturally want to use it at home, for Diptrace, i'll ignore EAGLEs stupid subscription costs, the cost isn't that high that it is unobtainable for most home users. Now, imagine using KiCAD commercially, you find a bug, you report it, 2 years later it MIGHT get fixed unless you can fix it yourself (note: Most users can't fix bugs). If you use these packages commercially you will be more drawn to them for home use and then it can seem a bit expensive unless you can use a work license at home. Diptrace, like EAGLE, are pricey in comparison, although not as pricey as some other packages. It has features that will rival most paid software packages, in some cases it does it better, for others it doesn't. KiCAD is the absolute best tool in the world for the price. ✔ Slightly faster 64-bit version available✔ Regular updates with new functions✘ Many additional features come at the expense of stability ✘ Fewer additional functions than LibreOffice✘ Less compatible with more complex formatting ✔ Creating charts (CHARTS)✔ Larger selection of presentation templates✔ More additional functions in the writing program✔ More import and export functions ✔ Better compatibility with more complex formatting More closely aligned with Google Office applications docx, as Office 2013 and up do deal with ODF files well enough now.More closely aligned with Microsoft Office applications WPS Office on the other hand regularly gets the boot as I don't feel like constantly converting my. Word, eventhough it's gotten better on that front, still feels clunky and unreliable when it comes to chaining styles. I prefer LibreOffice due to its much better handling of styles in Writer, as I frequently have to type long documents with images, TOC, footnotes, etc. Only supports recent MS Office file formats. No desktop Linux version, Android version is questionable.įor Kingsoft/WPS Office: free. Default interface still looks dated.įor MS Office: the reference. Same-day release on Windows, Linux and OS-X Android still in the works, cloud version is still quite experimental. Interface is familiar, constantly improving and user-customizable. Deals very well with both legacy and current file formats from any source. If you're on Windows you probably clicked the "get MS Office" link that Microsoft pushes on all installs of Windows 10.įor LibreOffice: really Free. If you use an Android smartphone, more than likely you're using WPS Office. If you're using a Linux distro, chances are you're using LibreoOffice or at worst the latest release of Apache OpenOffice (which isn't technically dead, but on life support). You could add other input methods like Spanish of Latin America or Spain as well, but keyboards in those countries are physically different from a standard US keyboard the keys don't match up, so typing becomes very frustrating. You can type any of the blue characters below when your keyboard is set to international: But, if you switch your keyboard input method to "International English" you'll get a simple way to type not only Spanish characters, but the special characters of many other languages as well. There is no easy way to type a foreign character. By default your keyboard input method is set to US English and it functions pretty much like your typing teacher taught you - press the key of the letter you want to appear on the screen. If you live in the United States your computer automatically assumes that you have an English keyboard (and that you only speak one language). adding graphics and stickers such as a speech bubble (12:14).use the doodle tool for touch-ups and arrows (11:24).adding a label or ribbon to photos – *special workaround (8:06).Here’s a list of the features I demo in the video (with accompanying video times): This video tutorial is for anyone looking for some simple and basic ways to enhance photos whether it be for blogging or personal use. And let me clarify, there’s no downloading or registration…you simply open it up in your web browser, open up a file, and get to work! So, if you have internet access, you have pixlr access. It’s comparable to PicMonkey, which is more well known however, I’ve grown really fond of Pixlr for its easy interface, plethora of filter and font options, and absence of “exclusive paid upgrades.” I cover a few Pixlr’s downsides compared to PicMonkey in the video, mainly, the limited “undo” button and the lack of ribbons and labels however, there is a workaround for the latter that I share! One of my favorite tools for editing photos is Pixlr Express, which is an online photo editor that is FREE and really easy to use. Brace yourselves for some perk! Pixlr Express Which was accentuated by the fact that I had coffee the morning of filming…so, yeah. So, how do I deal with nerves? In this case, I got perky. Still, there’s something about putting yourself out there on video for the world wide web to see that is a little unnerving. Sure, I’m a theatre person, and I’ve gotten up in front of some tough crowds in my day (remember, I teach high school students). Today, I share my first ever video tutorial, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. |
